In some cases, an order may not be eligible for fulfillment by Handled. This typically happens for one of two reasons:
❗Reasons an Order May Not Ship
-
Inventory Shortage
One or more items in the order is not available in inventory. We’ve marked the order as Shortage until the required stock is received. -
Order is On Hold
The order was intentionally placed on hold—either automatically based on a rule (e.g., tag-based hold), or manually by your team for review or edits.
🔍 How to Identify These Orders
You can find orders currently in Shortage or On Hold status in one of two ways:
-
Option A: Check in the Handled System
You can view your held or shortage orders here. This page provides a filtered view so you can quickly identify and take action. -
Option B: Get Notified by Email
If you’d like to receive an email notification every time an order enters one of these statuses, just email us at

and we’ll set you up for automated alerts.
🚀 How to Release These Orders for Shipment
-
If the Order is On Hold
You can follow these instructions to take the order off hold whenever you’re ready. Once the order is back in Open status, we will ship it as soon as possible. -
If the Order is in Shortage Status
You have two options to release these orders:- Send us more inventory for the out-of-stock items. Once received and available, the order will automatically move forward.
-
Update the order to remove unavailable items, either:
- In your selling platform (e.g., Shopify), or
- Directly in the Handled system
- If you believe this is an error or have already sent the inventory, please contact us at
📧 support@handledcommerce.com, and we’ll investigate right away.
